Virus at work = idiot user

Blogged under Work by Joel on Thursday 23 June 2005 at 11:16 am

So some people at work have been receiving email sent by the MyTob Worm, and like good little children they followed my previous 5 years of warnings and ignored them and deleted them. Until yesterday.

My antivirus logs suddenly started filling up and I was receiving failed mail responses from our mail server. I looked up the user and called her. I asked her if she was trying to open an attachment, and she says, “Yes, see? I keep trying but it won’t open.” I wanted to kill her.

I found the virus removal tool, and also proceeded to clean up these damn websearch toolbars and the related spyware/adware that goes with them. I then had to repeat this process on another computer that still is receiving error messages from a program every couple of minutes or so. I told him he’ll have to live with it for now, as he’s the one who installed the crap in the first place.

I’ve now requested revocation of email use, until the users pass a test. Let’s see what happens.

Getting married

Blogged under Family, General by Joel on Wednesday 15 June 2005 at 11:10 am

We (Carissa and I) are getting married, hopefully in July. I say hopefully because we can’t get married in less than 20 days from the date of the appointment with the courthouse people, and we haven’t received that appointment yet. We’re trying for July 23, so they better get their act together and call us. We’re also waiting for the jeweler to call and tell us the rings are ready. Quicker, people!

Moved the blog

Blogged under General by Joel on Wednesday 1 June 2005 at 1:50 pm

I’ve moved the blog up the the main domain. Any requests to blog.sillywalker.com will be redirected to here. I’m still working out some kinks, but now that I have the Pages link on the right, I can accomplish most of what I wanted to.
